Easy Homemade Pop-Tarts

I’m back today with one of my new favorite things to make at home. These easy homemade pop-tarts are so nostalgic and fun to make and as a 90s kid, I totally approve of these! The crust is my simple homemade pie crust, but you can always substitute a store-bought crust in a pinch. Today we’re starting with the classic strawberry pop-tarts with a simple powdered sugar glaze on top. Let’s get into it.

To prepare the pie crust, you’ll start by slicing the butter into small squares. Optional tip: I like to use my food processor and the shredding function to make it easier.

Next, add the flour and salt to the butter and combine.

Slowly add the vegetable oil and then the cold water and mix until the dough is just combined. Then, form the dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap. Place the dough into the fridge for one hour to allow it to chill.

Dive the dough into two equal pieces, then roll each piece of dough out into a rectangle. Wrap the pieces in plastic wrap again and place into the fridge for another 30 minutes to an hour.

After an hour has passed, remove the dough from the refrigerator and carefully place the pieces on top of each other.

Cut the dough in to equal sized rectangles, approximately 5-6 inches in length. You should now have matching top and bottom pieces to create the pop-tarts.

To the bottom piece, spread the strawberry jelly liberally, leaving about an inch of space on the edges.

Place the top piece of dough on the bottom piece and use a fork to crimp the edges shut.

Brush the pop-tarts with egg whites, then bake the pop-tarts at 425 degrees for 10 minutes.

While the pop-tarts are baking, prepare the glaze. Combine the powdered sugar, melted butter and half of the milk. Slowly add in the remaining milk, one tablespoon at a time until you have reached the desired consistency.

When the pop-tarts have finished baking, carefully spread the glaze on top and add sprinkles.
