Ingredients

For the Pie Crust:
  • 2 1/2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Butter cold
  • 3/4 Cup Cold Water
  • 4 TBSP Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Egg White
For the Pop-Tart Filling:
  • 1/2 Cup Strawberry Jelly
For the Glaze:
  • 2 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 tsp Vanilla
  • 2 TBSP Butter melted
  • 4 TBSP Milk

Method

To Prepare the Pie Crust:
  1. Slice the butter into small squares. Optional tip: I like to use my food processor and the shredding function to make it easier.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the butter and combine.
  3. Slowly add the vegetable oil and then the cold water and mix until the dough is just combined.
  4. Form the dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap. Place the dough into the fridge for one hour to allow it to chill.
  5. Dive the dough into two equal pieces.
  6. Roll each piece of dough out into a rectangle. Wrap the pieces in plastic wrap again and place into the fridge for another 30 minutes to an hour.
To Prepare the Glaze:
  1. Combine the powdered sugar, melted butter and half of the milk. Slowly add in the remaining milk, one tablespoon at a time until you have reached the desired consistency.
To Prepare the Pop-Tarts:
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and carefully place the pieces on top of each other.
  3. Cut the dough in to equal sized rectangles, approximately 5-6 inches in length. You should now have matching top and bottom pieces to create the pop-tarts.
  4. To the bottom piece, spread the strawberry jelly liberally, leaving about an inch of space on the edges.
  5. Place the top piece of dough on the bottom piece and use a fork to crimp the edges shut.
  6. Brush the pop-tarts with egg whites.
  7. Bake the pop-tarts at 425 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Remove the pop-tarts from the oven and spread the glaze on top. Add sprinkles if desired and enjoy!
