The Perfect Pasta Sauce Recipe

Welcome back to the Haunted Foodie! Today I have one of my most prized recipes to share with you. The family sauce recipe! This pasta sauce is amazingly delicious and simple to make. I grew up standing around my grandmother’s stove, waiting for my turn to dip bread into the simmering sauce. This recipe is sure to bring your Sunday family dinners to life, and it will be hard to keep the family out of the kitchen until it’s finished!

For this recipe, you’ll need an immersion blender. You can use a regular blender in a pinch, but I prefer to use an immersion blender for ease of use. This is the one I recommend to everyone I meet: Handheld Immersion Blender

Start out by dicing the yellow onion and mincing the five cloves of garlic. Five cloves is just a suggestion, more garlic is ALWAYS allowed.

Next, heat a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.

When the pot is hot, add the olive oil and then the onion. Continue to sauté until the onions are translucent, then add the garlic and sauté for another minute.

Add the remaining ingredients except for the fresh basil to the pot and bring to a simmer.

   pasta sauce simmering

Allow the pasta sauce to continue to simmer for at least an hour.

Using an immersion blender, blend the sauce until it is smooth.

Add the fresh basil and allow the sauce to cook for another 15-30 minutes.
